As he tours the critical swing state of Virginia today, presumed GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney will renew his attacks on President Obama's energy policies, criticizing the White House for not pursuing offshore drilling in the Old Dominion State.

Romney is set to appear at a factory in Portsmouth, Va., along with Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell (R), a possible vice presidential pick.

"At a time when nearly 23 million Americans are struggling for work, President Obama has sacrificed thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in revenue by targeting Virginia's offshore drilling efforts," Romney campaign spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg said in a statement. "This is just the latest example of a president who is more interested in playing politics than creating jobs and getting the economy moving again."

In advance of his appearance today, Romney's campaign also released the latest in a series of Web videos it has created criticizing Obama based on his speech at the 2008 Democratic National Convention. The one-minute video highlights Obama's pledge to invest $150 billion over a decade in renewable sources of energy including wind, solar and biofuels, which he described at the time as "an investment that will lead to new industries and 5 million new jobs that pay well and can't be outsourced."

The video goes on to contrast that pledge with the bankruptcy of the California solar firm Solyndra, which received Energy Department-backed loans, and highlights news reports that indicate renewable energy job growth is slow or negative.

Obama, who in 2008 became the first Democratic presidential nominee to carry Virginia since 1964, is likewise set to appear in the state this weekend to kick off his re-election bid at an event in Richmond.
