Hughes previously worked with Rebhorn in the mid-2000s on the sale of Prisma Energy from Enron to AEI Energy.

"[They have] a prior relationship working together, so that also was a benefit," said First Solar spokesman Ted Meyer.

Rebhorn has focused on power generation for most of his career, most recently as CEO of Quail Nuclear Specialty Services LLC. Before that, he spent 10 years as a partner at Resolutions Management Ltd., where he provided strategic support for clients in the energy, steel, fuel cell, engineering, construction, petroleum and manufacturing industries.

In 1999, as the commercial director for Enron, Rebhorn testified before a subcommittee of the House Ways and Means Committee in support of expanding trade relations between the United States and Africa.

Rebhorn graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and started his career in the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. He also earned an MBA from Texas A&M University.
