Gas price politics on display in Miss. special election
Voters in northern Mississippi will head to the polls today in a nationally watched special election that could have significant implications for both parties for their campaign message and general outlook heading into November. The race for Mississippi's 1st District represents the final leg in a trio of special elections over the last couple of months that have seen the Democrats capture two seats in what had been firmly in the GOP column. But it is also the first of those contests to be held in an environment in which gas prices are the dominant political issue on Capitol Hill and could become to forbearer of the kind of strategy that both parties will try to employ on the issue in contests down the road.
