1. ENDANGERED SPECIES:
Enviro groups seek to further climate, oil and gas agendas with polar bear listing
Environmental groups plan to use yesterday's listing of the polar bear as a threatened species as a springboard to halt global warming and oil and gas development in the Arctic. The Center for Biological Diversity, one of three groups that originally sued to have the polar bear considered as an endangered species, will use the listing to call on the Bush administration to take steps to reduce and eliminate greenhouse gas emissions, which are blamed for global warming -- the key cause of melting the polar bears' sea ice habitat in the Arctic.
