Supporters and opponents of a bipartisan bill to allow a $700 million bridge over the federally protected St. Croix River along the Minnesota-Wisconsin border are scrambling for support ahead of a suspension vote scheduled for tomorrow in the House. Critics of the St. Croix River Crossing project are calling S. 1134 -- sponsored by Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) -- an earmark that would spoil views on a river prized for its recreational values. But supporters say failure to pass the bill would jeopardize state and federal funding.
