Bridge supporters, critics lobby for support ahead of House vote
Supporters and opponents of a bipartisan bill to allow a $700 million bridge over the federally protected St. Croix River along the Minnesota-Wisconsin border are scrambling for support ahead of a suspension vote scheduled for tomorrow in the House. Critics of the St. Croix River Crossing project are calling S. 1134 -- sponsored by Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) -- an earmark that would spoil views on a river prized for its recreational values. But supporters say failure to pass the bill would jeopardize state and federal funding. And redesigning the bridge would effectively ground the project for another decade, they say. Go to story #1
