1. CAMPAIGN 2012:
Enviros' muted support for Ohio senator may have more to do with national landscape than his record
Sen. Sherrod Brown (D) has occasionally drawn fire from environmental groups for his efforts on behalf of Ohio's manufacturing sector, but on the whole the first-term Democrat has proved to be a reliable vote in favor of President Obama's environmental agenda, including U.S. EPA's pollution-control regime. He has earned a 93 percent lifetime rating from the League of Conservation Voters for votes cast as both a congressman and a senator, and although he was criticized last year for voting for an amendment that would have temporarily suspended EPA's greenhouse gas rules, he continues to refer to climate change as a moral issue. Yet now, as Brown faces a tough race for re-election against Ohio state Treasurer Josh Mandel (R), he is getting little practical support from environmentalists. Go to story #1
