2. EPA:

Senators gird for McCarthy hearing

The battle lines are clear ahead of U.S. EPA administrator nominee Gina McCarthy's confirmation hearing today. The EPA air chief hasn't been hit with much criticism since President Obama tapped her last month to replace former Administrator Lisa Jackson, and even some of EPA's staunchest critics have hailed her as someone they could work with. But that changed yesterday when Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky sent a statement to home-state reporters saying his pre-confirmation meeting with McCarthy had convinced him that she would "foster this administration's radical environmental and anti-coal jobs agenda."
