9. CAMPAIGN 2012:
House GOP hits Dem incumbents and candidates one more time on Solyndra
Published:
The National Republican Congressional Committee is once again aiming to link Democratic lawmakers and candidates to the now-bankrupt Solyndra solar company, making the company a symbol of what it called the White House's failed energy policy.
In news releases going into the districts of dozens of Democrats today, the NRCC seeks to link the 2009 stimulus package to rising consumer gasoline prices.
As one example, a Republican statement quotes NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay saying Utah Rep. Jim Matheson "and his Democrat leaders are hoping families and small businesses struggling with prices at the pump forget that their signature energy policy was the failed stimulus that squandered money on companies like Solyndra instead of promoting real energy independence. Matheson's failed stimulus energy loans are simply another reminder to his Utah constituents of how years of Democrat policies have simply made matters worse."
The NRCC issued nearly identical releases in the districts of Reps. Jason Altmire (Pa.), John Barrow (Ga.), Tim Bishop (N.Y.), Leonard Boswell (Iowa), Bruce Braley (Iowa), Lois Capps (Calif.), Ben Chandler (Ky.), David Cicilline (R.I.), Gerry Connolly (Va.), Jim Costa (Calif.), John Garamendi (Calif.), Raul Grijalva (Ariz.), Brian Higgins (N.Y.), Jim Himes (Conn.), Ruben Hinojosa (Texas), Rush Holt (N.J.), Steve Israel (N.Y.), Bill Keating (Mass.), Larry Kissell (N.C.), Rick Larsen (Wash.), David Loebsack (Iowa), Nita Lowey (N.Y.), Jim Matheson (Utah), Carolyn McCarthy (N.Y.), Mike McIntyre (N.C.), Jerry McNerney (Calif.), Michael Michaud (Maine), Bill Owens (N.Y.), John Yarmuth (Ky.), Frank Pallone (N.J.), Ed Perlmutter (Colo.), Chellie Pingree (Maine), Nick Rahall (W.Va.), Louise Slaughter (N.Y.), Betty Sutton (Ohio), John Tierney (Mass.), Paul Tonko (N.Y.), Niki Tsongas (Mass.) and Tim Walz (Minn.).
