Alaska boy Beaudreau finds his way home at Interior

Last September, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management Director Tommy Beaudreau received a rare invitation from a group of Alaska's North Slope whalers to visit a tiny Arctic island that the villagers use to launch their fall whaling trips. Cross Island, an eyebrow-shaped sliver of land, is located 20 miles from Prudhoe Bay, the heart of Alaska's North Slope oil development hub. For Beaudreau, the visit provided a unique on-the-ground perspective of the conflicting demands of the American Arctic.
