Production from the Marcellus Shale Basin is headed toward a milestone of 10 billion cubic feet a day later this year, according to energy company and analysts' predictions, riding a surge that has made it the country's top shale gas play in just seven years despite low prices, a drilling rig decline, transportation bottlenecks and environmental concerns.
