Senate Democrats unveil speculation plan, GOP wants drilling amendments
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) last night introduced new legislation to curb oil market speculation that many lawmakers allege is driving prices beyond what supply and demand fundamentals should dictate. The bill broadens Commodity Futures Trading Commission regulation in several ways, including setting new limits on the size of speculative trading, and would also authorize 100 more staffers for CFTC.
