Waxman sets Memorial Day deadline to move emissions, energy bill

House Energy and Commerce Chairman Henry Waxman vowed today to get comprehensive climate and energy legislation out of his committee before Memorial Day in a bid to give President-elect Barack Obama a major environmental achievement in his first term. "That is an ambitious agenda, but it is an achievable one," the California Democrat said. "We cannot afford another year of delay."

2. CLIMATE:

U.S. CAP endorses 80% emissions cut

A major coalition of corporations and environmental groups is urging Congress to pass by year's end a mandatory, economywide cap-and-trade program to reduce U.S. emissions of carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping gases to 20 percent of 2005 levels by 2050.
