Obama touts his spending plan for deficit reduction, economic growth goals

With its dependence on the politically sticky issue of new revenues from tax increases, the fiscal 2014 budget that was released by the White House this morning isn't likely to reflect the actual spending authorities that agencies will see next year. But five months after winning re-election and a month after sequestration forced automatic across-the-board cuts on agencies, President Obama is again trying to set the debate in Washington, D.C. And even at a time of fiscal restraint and emphasis on cost cutting, the president is using his new spending plan to continue to beat the drum for increased investments in clean energy and efforts to fight climate change.
