1. CAMPAIGN 2014:

With race to take on Begich in the home stretch, candidates sharpen attacks amid fears of GOP split

EAGLE RIVER, Alaska -- By all traditional political measurements, Dan Sullivan should have a comfortable lead in Alaska's primary next Tuesday for the Republican Senate nomination. Sullivan, Alaska's former state attorney general and natural resources commissioner, has raised dramatically more money than his two competitors. By mid-August, Sullivan reported campaign contributions of $4.1 million, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. But for the last five months, Sullivan has been the target of a $3.8 million negative ad campaign funded by Put Alaska First, the political action committee organized by Alaska's incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Begich.
