Farm bill agreement not enough for Bush

The House-Senate agreement on the farm bill would bar some very wealthy landowners from certain farm subsidies, but the plan does not go far enough to get White House support. Farm bill conference committee members lifted the lid on the agreement today, which would block direct payments to landowners above a certain income. The payments go to farmers regardless of crop size or price, but depending on where a landowner makes his money -- from the farm or from other, outside sources -- the limits kick in at different levels: either $500,000, $750,000 or $1.2 million.
