EPA vetoes massive Mississippi flood-control project
U.S. EPA today vetoed an Army Corps of Engineers' flood control project that regulators say would have destroyed 67,000 acres of Mississippi River wetlands. Benjamin Grumbles, EPA's assistant administrator for water, signed the final Clean Water Act veto of the $220 million Yazoo Backwater Reformulation Project, which had been long sought by farmers and their political allies in the Mississippi Delta.
