Republicans prepare alternative to Reid's energy plan

Senate Republican leaders plan to offer a counterproposal to the small energy and oil spill response package that Democrats are expected to roll out next week. The Republican measure will include only oil spill and offshore drilling provisions, omitting separate energy provisions that Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has indicated will be in his package. Rockefeller promises push to clip EPA climate regs

Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) vowed today to continue to press for legislation to handcuff U.S. EPA climate regulations in the wake of Majority Leader Harry Reid's (D-Nev.) decision to punt on climate legislation. "I am continuing to push hard for my bill to suspend EPA action for two years, so that Congress, not federal regulators, can set national energy policy," Rockefeller said in a statement.
