Supreme Court rules for Wyo. over Mont. on river withdrawals

The Supreme Court ruled today that Wyoming farmers and industries are not in violation of the Yellowstone River Compact when they use more efficient irrigation systems. In a 7-1 ruling -- with Justice Antonin Scalia dissenting -- the court held that Montana failed to state a claim for breach of the compact. Montana had claimed Wyoming farmers were using more water than is allowed from the Powder and Tongue rivers, leaving less for Montana downstream. Go to story #1
