FDA moves toward approving modified salmon
The Obama administration will seek to approve the growth and sale of a controversial biotech salmon, according to draft regulatory documents to be published next week by the Food and Drug Administration. The fast-growing salmon, developed by the small biotech firm AquaBounty Technologies, has lingered for years in regulatory limbo, facing stiff opposition from environmental groups. If approved, it would be the first biotech animal to be sold as food on supermarket shelves.
