Shell secures marine mammal permits for summer drilling projects

Royal Dutch Shell PLC inched closer to drilling for oil this summer in the Arctic Ocean after the Obama administration issued new permits allowing limited impacts to marine mammals. The Dutch oil giant today received clearance from the Commerce Department to cause incidental harm to whales and seals while it conducts drilling activities in Alaska's Beaufort and Chukchi seas.
