White House calls for next repository by 2048

The Obama administration today called for the creation of a permanent geologic repository by 2048 to store increasing amounts of nuclear waste, more than five decades after Congress intended the original Yucca Mountain site in Nevada to be built. The administration's strategy calls for the creation of a pilot interim storage facility by 2021, a larger interim facility by 2025 and a final repository more than two decades later. Go to story #1
