Large mine would hurt salmon -- EPA

A large-scale mine in southwest Alaska would have negative effects on valuable salmon populations, U.S. EPA said today when releasing its revised draft watershed assessment of potential mining in the Bristol Bay region. Concern over the potential Pebble LP gold and copper mine prompted the agency to conduct the watershed assessment, much to the chagrin of developers and the wider mining industry.
