Employees of grant-backed battery maker squandered time, cash -- IG

The subsidiary of a Korean company mismanaged a $151 million grant meant to be used for battery cell production, the Energy Department's inspector general said in a report released today. LG Chem Michigan -- a subsidiary of LG Chem, South Korea's largest chemical company -- had received a grant from DOE to build a $304 million battery cell manufacturing plant in Holland, Mich.
