'Rising star' lawmaker quits, jumps to Chevron

The chairman of the California Senate's Environmental Quality Committee stepped down suddenly today to work for Chevron Corp. State Sen. Michael Rubio left the post that many saw as a jump-off point for a larger political career. Rubio, 35, was seen as a rising star in the state and perhaps beyond.
