GOLDEN, Colo. — The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is experimenting with two types of electric vehicles that promise to change American transportation habits and, eventually, help reduce one of the world's fastest-growing sources of greenhouse gas emissions: gasoline-powered cars.
