The Obama administration is extending a prohibition on new mining claims along 14 miles of Oregon's Illinois River, part of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System.
The Supreme Court this morning agreed to hear a case involving whether the Clean Water Act covers pollution that moves through groundwater before reaching a federal waterway. Its outcome could clarify or narrow EPA's historical interpretation of the types of pollution discharges covered by the law.
