Bush won't finalize new fuel economy standards

President George W. Bush will leave office this month without finalizing the new auto fuel economy requirements that he proposed last April, the Transportation Department said today. "The recent financial difficulties of the automobile industry will require the next administration to conduct a thorough review of matters affecting the industry, including how to effectively implement the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007," DOT said in a statement.
