EPA orders power plants to clean up interstate emissions

U.S. EPA finalized new rules today that will require another round of cuts in soot- and smog-forming smokestack emissions from power plants in 27 Eastern states. The Cross-State Air Pollution Rule, which was known as the Clean Air Transport Rule when it was proposed a year and a day ago, is a "long overdue step" toward protecting public health, EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson told reporters today.
