AEP scraps carbon-capture project, citing climate stalemate

American Electric Power Co. Inc. announced today that it will cancel a commercial-scale project to trap and store the carbon dioxide emissions from its Mountaineer coal-fired power plant in New Haven, W.Va., dealing a major setback to a technology that is seen as key to fighting climate change.
