The Santa Ana winds are spreading catastrophic blazes this week through Southern California. The dry, relentless east-to-west winds haunt the region each fall, terrifying homeowners and firefighters alike. "A wind-driven fire is like a freight train," Cal Fire's Daniel Berlant says, "and stopping a freight train on a dime doesn't happen."
