Inside Exxon's scrappy fight over air pollution

A $20 million fine imposed on Exxon Mobil Corp. for air pollution permit violations in 2017 may have seemed like a drop in the bucket for the company that raked in almost $20 billion that same year, but the oil giant has launched an aggressive appeal of the penalty — which environmental groups say is the largest ever in an environment-related citizen suit.
