Mysterious mold and smog abound after federal inaction

GREENDALE, Ind. — Mayor Alan Weiss has a whiskey fungus problem. The black mold associated with alcohol aging is all over his town. Weiss hoped air pollution violations discovered by EPA would force a nearby distillery to clean up its act. But the agency quietly decided to not pursue the enforcement case — another move spurred by intervention from the Trump administration.
