Groups sue to stop Shell's Beaufort drilling plan

A coalition of 13 Alaska Native and conservation groups filed a lawsuit today aimed at blocking Royal Dutch Shell PLC's plan to drill for oil in the Beaufort Sea next summer. The lawsuit filed in the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco claims the Interior Department violated federal law last month when it conditionally approved an exploration plan for Shell to drill up to four wells in the Beaufort Sea.
