Members of Congress gathered Wednesday to remember Raúl Grijalva as a champion of the environment, a mentor for young lawmakers and a frequenter of a favored Democratic social club.
The memorial service for the Democrat, who died earlier this month, was in Tucson, Arizona, part of a district he represented for more than two decades.
Prominent speakers included former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and former Interior Secretary Deb Haaland. They remembered Grijalva for his decades of public service and sharp wit.
Grijalva leaves behind a significant legacy, including more than two decades in Congress, nearly a decade of which he spent as the top Democrat on the House Natural Resources Committee.
