Advocates prepare to fight Trump rule-killing plans

One group released a list of recent and pending rules vulnerable to the Congressional Review Act.

Environmental and public health advocates are gearing up to track and prevent Republican efforts to dismantle the Biden agenda.

As Republican staffers scour government websites to find regulations and other actions that could be vulnerable to the rule-killing Congressional Review Act, the advocacy group Public Citizen on Friday released a list of at least 50 potential targets — including initiatives against lead in drinking water, corporate monopolies and methane pollution.

“We’ve had a Trump administration before — it’s pretty predictable what he plans to do again,” said Elizabeth Skerry, a regulatory policy associate at Public Citizen.

Republicans have spent days proclaiming their plans to quickly strike Biden regulations using the CRA, a tool that allows Congress, with a simple majority, and a cooperative White House to rescind regulations finalized in roughly the past six months. The exact lookback period dates won’t be known until the end of this session.
