The measure, which Gov. Kay Ivey agreed to Thursday, takes it cues from an executive order signed by President Donald Trump.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey on Thursday signed into law a measure that restricts the kind of research that can be used to help write state regulations.

The new law echoes the Trump administration’s “Gold Standard Science” requirements and it would, for example, limit the use of federal peer-reviewed research to studies that were “published for a purpose other than development of a rule.”

That would exclude some research into the health risks of chemicals and air pollution.

Ivey’s office declined to comment on the new law, which would sharply limit climate regulations or other restrictions on fossil fuels.
