The Trump administration’s pledge to ax Army Corps of Engineers projects in blue states could jeopardize a popular water infrastructure bill that Congress was expected to pass next year, according to Democratic senators.

In a recent letter to the Army Corps, all nine Democrats on the Environment and Public Works Committee blasted the administration for threatening to pause $11 billion in water infrastructure projects located exclusively in states that voted for Vice President Kamala Harris last November.

The Senate’s ability to pass a Water Resources Development Act in 2026 is now on the line because of the pause, the lawmakers warned.

“Democratic jurisdictions may bear the brunt of the acute, direct harm inflicted by these tactics, but ultimately the country as a whole will suffer,” the letter states.
