A Democrat-led push to codify the science behind climate change failed on the Senate floor Tuesday evening.
A resolution from Environment and Public Works ranking member Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), S. Res. 550, would have affirmed that “climate change caused by fossil fuel combustion is not a hoax.”
The resolution also said that greenhouse gas causing climate change is “sound science” and that Congress should protect climate research programs approved under law.
But an attempt to pass the resolution through unanimous consent — a Senate mechanism to fast-track non-controversial legislation — failed after Sen. Roger Marshall (R-Kan.) objected.
