A Democrat-led push to codify the science behind climate change failed on the Senate floor Tuesday evening.

A resolution from Environment and Public Works ranking member Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), S. Res. 550, would have affirmed that “climate change caused by fossil fuel combustion is not a hoax.”

The resolution also said that greenhouse gas causing climate change is “sound science” and that Congress should protect climate research programs approved under law.
