The National Park Service took a wait-and-see approach Wednesday as Republican lawmakers on a House Natural Resources subcommittee called for the creation of the first national park in Wisconsin.

A bill proposed by Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-Wis.), the chair of the Subcommittee on Federal Lands, would redesignate the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore in his state as the Apostle Islands National Park and Preserve.
