The Biden administration set a new goal to phase out federal procurement of certain single-use plastics in under three years.

Under the strategy, agencies will no longer be allowed to buy single-use plastics for food service operations, events and packaging by 2027 with procurement of general single-use plastics phased out by 2035.

That strategy includes plans on how agencies might research alternative plastic-free materials, implement better waste management practices and support efforts to remove plastic pollution from the environment.
