A former senior Interior Department official is joining a legal nonprofit pushing back against the Trump administration’s purge of federal employees.
Melissa Schwartz, who served as communications director for Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, is now chief public affairs and policy officer at Democracy Forward.
The legal advocacy group represents federal employees in a class-action lawsuit, along with Alden Law Group, arguing that the Trump administration unlawfully terminated probationary employees.
Schwartz also held dual roles as a senior counselor to Haaland and as chief of staff to then-acting Deputy Secretary Laura Daniel-Davis during the Biden administration.
