President Joe Biden today used a new worker protection rule to draw a stark contrast between himself and Republicans on climate change.
The administration today proposed a regulation that would for the first time require employers to take steps to protect laborers from the health effects of extreme heat. That includes providing water and cool places to rest when temperatures rise.
During a tour of the District of Columbia’s Emergency Operations Center, Biden described the regulation as just the latest step from his administration to address the effects of climate change, following other big-ticket items such as passing the Inflation Reduction Act and regulating emissions from power plants.
“Extreme weather events drive home a point that I’ve been saying for so long: Ignoring climate change is deadly and dangerous and irresponsible,” the president said while touring the District of Columbia’s Emergency Operations Center, with a map of heat across the United States behind him.
