Biden touts ‘historic progress’ in farewell to federal workforce

The departing president said civil servants “represent the best of who we are as Americans.”

President Joe Biden thanked the federal workforce for their service and touted the work they accomplished.

Biden, the 46th president of the United States, sent a letter on Thursday to employees across the government honoring their dedication to the country. Biden is leaving the White House as the incoming Trump administration takes charge on Monday.

“You gave your heart and soul to this Nation,” Biden wrote in the letter. “I am forever grateful to you and your families for your sacrifices, and all you have done on the frontlines to help realize the promise of America for all Americans.”

The president cited the work his administration and the career staff completed together as “historic progress,” including recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic, rebuilding the nation’s infrastructure, lowering prices for prescription drugs and “Leading the world against climate change.”
