A bipartisan Senate duo introduced legislation they’re billing as the successor to the 2020 Great American Outdoors Act.
The new bill from Sens. Steve Daines (R-Mont.) and Angus King (I-Maine) would inject new money into the National Parks and Public Land Legacy Restoration Fund through 2033 for deferred maintenance.
The parks backlog stands at $23 billion worth of repairs and needed projects. When President Donald Trump signed the GAOA, the backlog was at $17 billion.
Daines and King — who caucuses with Democrats — sounded a bipartisan note at an event Thursday morning to announce their “America the Beautiful Act.”
