Senate and House panels will vote on bills this week that would address illegal fishing, weather forecasting and daylight saving time.
The Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee will take up S. 29, the “Sunshine Protection Act,” which would end the twice-yearly practice of changing the clocks.
The bill, from Sens. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) and Patty Murray (D-Wash.), would keep the country permanently in daylight saving time, adding additional sunlight hours to the afternoon year round.
The committee discussed the daylight saving time proposal earlier this month. While most lawmakers and witnesses agreed that yearly clock changes should end, they were split over whether the country should remain in permanent daylight saving time or permanent standard time, which would instead prioritize daylight in the morning.
