Bills would cut red tape for nuclear energy, offshore wind

House lawmakers introduced bipartisan legislation last week meant to speed up approvals for nuclear fuel recycling efforts.

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) also introduced a measure in recent days meant to improve the offshore wind permitting process.

Lawmakers in both chambers and from both sides of the aisle have continued filing a flurry of bills even though the 118th Congress is coming to a close. They hope to set markers for action next year.

The “Nuclear REFUEL Act” from Energy and Commerce lawmakers Reps. Bob Latta (R-Ohio) and Scott Peters (D-Calif.) would streamline licensing requirements for nuclear fuel recycling facilities in an effort to address the growing waste crisis.
