The Bureau of Land Management plans to inject millions of dollars into nonprofit efforts to adopt wild horses and burros removed from federal lands.

The agency announced five new public-private partnerships to help take approximately 11,000 horses into private care over the course of five years. The nonprofit organizations will assist with outreach, training and the eventual adoption of wild horses and burros.

The partners could receive up to $25 million in total.
