“I have grave concerns about the processes outlined in the bill,” state Sen. Kathleen Passidomo said of the legislation, which would set aside 60 percent of developments 15,000 acres or more as reserve areas.

TALLAHASSEE, Florida — A state Senate committee voted Tuesday to send a development bill to the chamber floor despite the panel chair’s impassioned arguments against the measure.

Details: The Senate Rules Committee voted to advance the “blue ribbon” projects bill that would preempt local government approval for developments of 15,000 acres or more if 60 percent of the land is placed in reserve.

State Sen. Kathleen Passidomo (R-Naples), the committee chair, said the bill was not ready. She said it should be considered in the future as part of an overall discussion as to how the state should grow.

“I have grave concerns about the processes outlined in the bill,” Passidomo said. “It’s too broad, not definitive, it’s full of generalities and the barest of concepts with no enforceable conditions.”
