Interior Secretary Doug Burgum in his first day on the job pledged to work closely with agency employees to implement President Donald Trump’s energy dominance agenda by tapping natural resources on federal lands “to harness versus constrain that incredible potential.”
In a department-wide email, the former governor of North Dakota and tech entrepreneur called for a new approach at the department, one that isn’t “held back by regulation.”
“We are entering an era of abundance,” Burgum wrote, “an era where we can preserve and protect our most magnificent places, and sustainably, smartly and thoughtfully develop our resources for the benefit and the use of the American people for generations to come.”
The seven-paragraph email is Burgum’s first note to the 60,000 employees of the sprawling department.
