Burgum touts chance to slash government amid shutdown

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said Friday the government shutdown gives the White House a chance to trim government bloat.

“It gives all of us on the Trump team an opportunity to continue to cut spending,” Burgum said in an interview on the Fox Business morning program with Maria Bartiromo, in which he also spoke of efforts to keep some national parks open during the shutdown.

The Interior secretary placed the blame for the shutdown at the feet of Democrats, calling the shutdown “a giant waste of time.”

He also predicted that Republicans will prevail in the budget fight. “Democrats have got no leverage,” he said.
